On April 10th the Women of Purpose gathered for their Annual Award Luncheon at the Community Congregational Church in Garden City. The event is an opportunity for anyone who has been, or is interested in being a member of the Women of Purpose to come together for the announcement of the annual grant recipient. The big winner for the 2019 season was Big Brother and Big Sisters of Finney and Kearny Counties, who received an award of $5,000 toward their program, “Young Women of Purpose,” which aims to mentor roughly 20 young ladies between the ages of 11-15 to develop the skills and assets in young women that will lead them to success. Two additional grants were awarded as a surprise to the other finalists, as well as the membership. Russell Child Development Center and Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland received awards of $2,000 and $1,000 respectively for their mentorship programs. The Annual Award Luncheon is the Women of Purpose’s pinnacle event and is sponsored by the Commerce Trust Company.
