Michael Bassett was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and moved to southwest Kansas in the early 70’s to begin a career in farming. He changed directions and pursued a path in flour milling as Mill Superintendent for the Chelsea Milling Company in Michigan. Mike later returned to southwest Kansas and became the director of operations for two school districts before retiring with a strong maintenance background. He is currently serving as the president of the Deerfield City Council and a member of the board of trustees for Kearny County Hospital. In his free time, Michael enjoys strumming the guitar, playing chess and dabbling in the culinary arts, mainly baking.
