Pursuing Positive Change
The issue of sexual harassment and abuse has been center stage in recent news, even sparking a global movement. With statistics showing that nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States alone, it’s evident why the issue has reached its boiling point and become a topic at the front lines of discussion.

Over the past few months, WKCF has been engaged in strategic planning. The process of engaging a board of 17 members in the work of defining a vision and goals for the next few years can be a daunting task. It takes commitment to carve out the time to meet and focus on exploring our organization’s strengths as well as the areas in which we might do better.

Gifts to the Community Foundation come in all forms and shapes. While some donors make a legacy gift, designating in their will or estate plan a portion of their estate for charitable purposes, others prefer to establish a donor advised or field of interest fund to see the good it is doing during their lifetime.
Women with a Voice - Women of Purpose
On April 10th the Women of Purpose gathered for their Annual Award Luncheon at the Community Congregational Church in Garden City. The event is an opportunity for anyone who has been, or is interested in being a member of the Women of Purpose to come together for the announcement of the annual grant recipient.
2019/2020 Scholarship Awards
In May, the Western Kansas Community Foundation awarded scholarships to students from southwest Kansas. In total, the Foundation awarded 18 students with scholarships from 11 different scholarship funds. In addition, the Foundation makes distributions to Garden City Community College Endowment Association from four other funds for the purpose of providing scholarships. In total, scholarship awards and distributions to provide scholarships for the 2019/2020 school year amount to over $43,000.
March 2019 Grant Cycle
In March, 23 local nonprofit organizations were awarded grants totaling $44,546 from the Community Betterment Fund, the Kansas Health Foundation Children’s Fund, and various Field of Interest and Unrestricted funds. The March grant cycle is the first of three grant cycles offered by Western Kansas Community Foundation each year. Other grant deadlines are July 1st and November 1st.
