James Coast
James (Jim) Coast was born in Burr Oak, Kansas and moved to Cimarron early in his childhood. After graduating from Cimarron High School Jim attended Dodge City Community College followed by the University of Kansas from which he graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1972. After a few years of working in Kinsley and Kingman, Jim and his wife Sandi purchased Clark Pharmacy in 1975 in their hometown Cimarron. The Pharmacy was eventually sold in 2014. Through the years Jim purchased and/or established a total of five pharmacies serving the Southwest Kansas area. Jim and Sandi have two sons, Mike and Tony. Mike and wife Kim live in Cimarron, Tony lives in Denver, Colorado. Jim has been very involved in the community of Cimarron since returning there in 1974. He has served on the Cimarron City Council, the Board of Education for USD 102 Cimarron Ensign, and Rotary Club. He has also been a long-time board member of the Shepherd of the Plains Foundation which oversees the nonprofit administration of the Shepherd’s Center, a long-term care facility. Jim helped successfully raise enough funds to build a new facility in 2016. Jim is looking forward to learning and sharing about the work of the Western Kansas Community Foundation and providing opportunities for the residents of Cimarron and Gray County to continue to make western Kansas a great place to live, work and raise a family.
