Chairman's Perspective -- October 2017

Between 1999 and the end of 2014, the WKCF board successfully completed GROW I and GROW II, major fundraising initiatives sponsored by the Kansas Health Foundation.  The initiatives guided fundraising for a decade-and-a-half and resulted in significant growth in operations, technology and permanent endowment funds.  GROW I saw WKCF funds growing from $3M to more than $18M and GROW II brought an additional $2,600,000 for operations and permanent funds.  Now that the GROW I and GROW II initiatives are largely completed –  our affiliate organizations in Wichita County and Grant County hope to achieve their goals by the end of this year, it is time to establish more permanent strategic goals for growing WKCF into the future.

One of the strategies developed by the WKCF board is a giving campaign with the aim to grow the Foundation’s assets and unrestricted funds with the ultimate goal to increase our reach and impact in granting. Our 2017 Match Day event on November 28th is part of this multi-year effort. On that day, the $50,000 in matching dollars provided by WKCF will go back into the endowed funds of 15 participating funds and organizations, making each gift they receive go farther.

I want to thank our donors – local families and businesses, WKCF’s founding members, board members and alumni - for acknowledging the important work of our nonprofits and for giving generously toward the $50,000 match pool that we will provide on November 28th.
