Wichita County Community Foundation began in 2002 when an organizing committee came together committed to assist the people and communities of Wichita County in a pro-active manner. The group was dedicated to enhancing overall development to insure future viability of this rural western Kansas county.
In 2003, the board set about to raise funding through a capital campaign, golf tournament, banquet and auction that netted the Foundation $32,500 for a permanently endowed fund. Significant financial assistance came from Wichita County Economic Development through a grant in the amount of $150,000, to be used within five years to fund local grants and start-up funding for the Foundation. WCCF used this support to fund significant grants to Wichita County non-profit organizations as well as city, county and school initiatives.
Wichita County Community Foundation affiliated with Western Kansas Community Foundation in 2011 in an effort to build sustainability and provide support in their efforts to build permanent funds for the community.
